What state are you in? Landlords are bound by law in California to at least provide you with an itemized statement of any withheld securities within 3 weeks of your vacancy. 8 weeks is way too long. Start sending your landlord emails (if possible) or certified letters so you will have a paper trail if you end up in court over this. I know you could be awarded damages that are up to 2x your deposit.
I work at an apt. complex..our policy is 4-6 weeks..we have to clean and do whatever repairs that need to be done, which can take up to 2 weeks depending on the severity..then we send the deposit refund report in to our finance office, they then will mail out the check..if you haven't heard anything in 8 weeks, I'd call them.
