It is believed that men are more likely to get involved in extra marital affairs. Most divorce proceedings are initiated by women. It is believed that the first five years of marriage are divorce free and those marriages that have lasted more than two decades rarely, if ever, ending up in divorce. Most divorce proceedings are initiated in the first ten years of marriage. Then it is rarely if ever that men benefit or come out the wiser from a divorce proceeding. In the United States there are 3.6 cases of divorce per thousand.
