When a teenager is said to be emancipated, it means that he or she is granted the authority to do the same things as a person who has reached the age of majority. In the sate of North Carolina in the United States of America, a teenager can get emancipated when he or she is 18 years old.

The rules which a person who is living in the state of North Carolina in the United States of America has to follow in order to get emancipated is that the child must be a resident of the state of North Carolina in the United States of America, he or she must be at least 16 years of age, he or she must be living separately and apart from his or her parents or guardian, he or she must be capable of supporting himself or herself financially and looking after his or her own affairs, each parent or guardian must give their consent (although there are certain exceptions to this rule) and he or she must not be a ward of the state of North Carolina in the United States of America.
