In Canada, we're guilty until proven innocent... Your friend is going to have to testify in your behalf and assure the court you had no idea the Mac was stolen.  But the Crown is going to ask your friend where he got it, etc, etc... If there is any doubt at all, you're screwed.

Well the detective is going to talk to me today. He didn't tell me it was stolen and apparently HE didn't even know it was stolen.

Do you have a receipt for it?  Was it a car with the ignition punched out?  Is there anything about the property that would cause suspicion in a reasonable person?  Was there anything about the seller that would cause sispicion in a reasonable person?

It was a Mac Book. Given to me by my friend and there was no suspicion about the lap top, I gave it back to the detective. The only thing that was apparently on it was the owners work information and I deleted that and didn't know it was on there since it was in french.
