The average age for women giving birth for the first time works out to be a lot higher than 15!

In fact for many years now, women have been waiting longer and longer to have their first child, possibly due to the need to establish a stable career etc in order to support any family.

Statistics show that in the UK alone there are now more first-time mothers in the 30-34 age group than in the 25-29 age group!
Also, it has been shown that there is a 50% increase from ten years ago in the number of women over 40 years old who are now having babies.

Thus, in respect to these figures, the mean age for a woman having their first child in the UK, despite the hundreds of young teen mothers, is from about 27 to 29 years of age.

The average age for an American woman HAVE her first child is 24.9. It is also a well known fact the age at which a person will get married and/or have children is strongly affected by their education and socioeconomic background. As a result certain communities will have more instances of teenage pregnancies. This may be why some people answered that the average age is 15 or 16. That, however, is nowhere near the average.

Kids are too expensive... The government doesn't want you to have them - which is why they keep raising the cost of everything.

The average age to have a child is 25 years old.  Although many women are waiting until their late 20s and early 30s to have their first child.  And for the person who said the average age to have a baby is depending on a person's income is ignorant.  I'm in the low income bracket because I'm 23 years old, I'm working on my masters degree and I'm working full time as well.  I don't have any children, so to say low income have a bunch of children is just stupid.  Lastly, I would like to have children before I'm 30.  No disrespect to the over 30 crowd but I don't want to be 35 years old with a 2 year old.  I think it's better to be a younger mother (not too young like teens but mid to late 20s young) rather than an older mother.

Where I come from most women have their first child right around 18-20.  I mean I am a 24 year old mother of 3.  I don't think it's that bad.  My first child was a what happens happens situation using no birth control to prevent a miracle.  My second child was planned out me and my husband spoke over the phone a lot about how we were ready for another as we were both 21.  I purposely flew out to San Antonio where he was training for months while I was ovulating. Our third child which I am 7 months pregnant with right now was not planned nor wanted YET.  I got pregnant simply because we forgot to use a condom and my husband had just came back from deployment a couple weeks early and so I hadn't got on birth control yet.  I have it rough so I regret starting parenthood so young.  I think 23 would have been the perfect age for us to start we both agree we threw our lives a rough road and wish we would have waited a few more years to begin.

The average age that people have their first child depends on their income. If they are low income, some but not all of them) are going to have their first child at 14-years-old. In addition to that, they will have lots of them... that will prevent them from being in the work force and living off of welfare. To make matters even better, each child will have a different father. Different sources of income... hey can't beat THAT! LOL.

15? Are you guys joking? He said AVERAGE age. If you don't know what an AVERAGE is than you should take a math class. How many people do you know that had a kid at 15? I'm guessing it's not very many. I personally don't know any. We'll say 1 for posterity's sake. How many from 20-25. I know about 3. 25-30? I know about 5. That would bring the AVERAGE to... About 24. My guess is the people answering 15 are all 15-year-olds themselves because the only people they know are 15 and therefore, the only people they know that have had children are also 15.

I would say like around some where in the 20s range and saying somewhere in the teens is RIDICULOUS!!!! I think some people need to go back to school for math because that is extremely ill logical because then about 75% of high schoolers today would be pregnant which they aren't I know for a fact. Average is the likely amount of people not when a small minority get pregant. Some people today what will we with them!
