Nope as many crimes go unreported for whatever reason so many statistics are based on Police Reports and usually those are in general given by a Desk Sargeant and like I said a lot of crimes go unreported in this country and numbers are juggled to serve a certain agenda like a Politician needs good numbers to look good to the voters like President Obama does often
Crime stats usually have to be very specific. Now it depends in who's shoes you are when you receive the data. If you ''receive'' your crime stats trough the means of mass-media of any sort (they can be rounded up or down, for the public to remember, raise awareness, or to divert attention from other subjects.). I suggest before you use any stats, even in a conversation, have at least a veritable source.
