They are appointed for life and can be removed only through resignation and in rare cases by impeachment and then conviction. The Present Chief Justice is John Roberts and the Associate Judges include Samuel Alito, Stephen Bryer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Clarence Thomas, David Souter, Anthony Kennedy, Antonin Scalia and John Paul Stevens.
