It's kleptomania, and it can be compulsive. One tragic instance was Hedy Lamarr (1914-2000), known in her time as the most beautiful actress in film. She was also brilliant, a co-inventor of technology still used today in mobile phones.
This photo is beautiful, but does not even come close to her incredible on-screen presence. There are celebrities even today, beauty, money no object, and cannot seem to help themselves.
