I believe Amanda Knox is innocent, although with the evidence being so muddied by the police, it's hard for anybody to be sure.

It's not an easy case to make sense of, and there are some details that would suggest that she was guilty (her cell phone being switched off when it never usually was, and her changing her statement, for example) but that doesn't mean she's guilty. I think it'll be interesting to see what she has to say when her book is published.

Reasons I Think Amanda Knox Is Innocent

  • She had no motive for the murder
  • She was demonised by the press, and those judging her case would have read these biased newspaper reports (which wouldn't have happened in the US)
  • She was interviewed by the police via a translator - this leaves room for a) the translator and b) the police to interpret what she said in a biased manner
  • Her prints weren't at the crime scene, but Guede's were.
  • The murder weapon was never found - the knife that they did find was too big to have made the marks on Meredith Kercher's throat. There were no reliable witnesses who saw her at the scene. One homeless person said he'd seen her and her boyfriend, but he'd also claimed to be a witness in several other murder cases, so it's all a bit odd.
  • The evidence wasn't handled correctly by the police, which means that it could easily have been contaminated (and probably was)
  • The Italian police were saying that Meredith Kercher was murdered in some kind of drug frenzy or sex game gone wrong. The only drug in Amanda Knox's system was cannabis, and that's generally a drug that makes you relaxed, happy and lazy - and definitely not alert enough to cover your tracks so well! It just doesn't make sense to me. People don't go crazy and murder people after smoking pot.
  • Being in a foreign country would have made things a lot more difficult — just imagine being accused of murder in a country where you aren't familiar with how the justice system works. I lived in France for a few years, so I know how much of an issue the language barrier can be — defending yourself in a foreign language would be terrifying, especially when you know that the entire country wants to believe you're guilty.

It does not matter what I believe and Amanda Knox will be found guilty or not guilty ( again! ). Nothing to do with innocence.
