North Korea's Camp 22 held that title and was as bad as any Nazi concentration camp or Siberian Gulag. Now that it has closed the title is held by Gitarama Central Prison, Rwanda.

Here's a list of the world's 10 most dangerous prisons and they're not all located in primitive countries. #10 is Rikers Island, NY.

There's nothing like seeing them up close to realise how bad they are. Seeing it on TV isn't the same -- you don't know what's been done with the editing.

They seem harmless enough on TV but they can be frightening when you meet them in the wild.

I've personally known three murderers. Two of them seemed pretty normal (except when they were killing people, of course) the third I knew when he was in his early twenties, before he became involved with drugs and murder. The last I heard of him he was doing 20 years for a drug-related murder and the importation of a large amount of heroin. He'd have finished that sentence but may well be back inside for more crimes since his release.
