How do I write a letter to a judge explaining the guilt of my client but requesting lieniency?

You don't and with you saying "your client" are you an attorney or what? If you are, you should know this already. You just need to be with them and tell the Judge their plea but with an explanation and then ask the Judge for mercy and tell the Judge their good traits and then you pray the Judge is in a good mood.
