Why Was Mike Tyson Jailed?

In 1991 Mike Tyson was arrested for the alleged rape of Desiree Washington who held the title of Miss Black Rhode Island and was a Miss Black American contestant. He was accused of raping her in Indianapolis in February 1992 in a hotel room. The trial took place in 1992, he was found guilty and sentenced to six years imprisonment of which he served three years. While in prison he converted to Islam but this did not end his difficulties with violence. In 1998 he was accused of assaulting two people following a road accident and was then sentenced to 200 hours of community service. Earlier assault charges in 1987 were settled out of court but accusations of violence have outside the boxing ring have dogged his career. In 1988 his first wife Robin Givens accused him of violence and in 1990 a former aide to Givens sued Tyson for sexual assault and harassment. Tyson was jailed again in 1998 following a road rage type attack on two motorists in Maryland. He was released on parole having served only a small portion of his one year sentence.

Mike Tyson also got into some other kind of trouble when he bit off a piece of someone's ear. I think it was in 1989... I was in Idaho and he was to have a boxing appearance in Sun Valley and there was a big blow-up about it. Anyone recall that piece of history? It was not in my interest, but remains in my recollections.
