Speaking as an Air Force and Army veteran and as a former combat medic from the Viet Nam class of '66-'67, I have the greatest respect for that former POW. I totally disagree that America has gotten "soft." Just let somebody attack us on our soil, sink one of our American vessels, bring down an American airplane, or imprison American citizens and see what happens. Germany and Japan found out that it was like waking a "sleeping giant" and stirring a hornet's nest. We retaliate as fast as we can gather our resources. In all foreign wars, the enemy quickly discovered that we not only learned their techniques, we surpassed them and became nastier. I would say that we tend to become complacent and often too tolerant....but definately not soft. 'Nuff said.
Seriously, in 2008 we elected a community organizer, state senator, college instructor first term senator over a guy who spent five years in a Vietnamese prison. And now he's lecturing us about how America's gone "soft"? Really?
I think the only Americans who have become soft are those living off the tax dollars ordinary workers pay, such as politicians, government employees and those on welfare.
