NO ONE Is Above The Law..   To Be Able To Buy Your Way Out Of   Jail..   Traffic Tickets. And Sentencing Is A Ludicrous Affront To The Justice System..If You Can't Do The   Time..   Don't Do The Crime .. Some Prisons Are Like Going To   Country Club .. Aren't They? If They Don't Go To Jail Then They Never Learn That There Is Consequences For Bad Behavior. Lindsay Lohan Tried Crying. No Deal.. Her Lawyer Said She Had To Work .   Still   Jail Time..   She Also Got Rehab. What If She Skips Out On That To?

It is true that rarely does any inmate have to serve his/her full sentence.   They generally are given an early release based on good behavior and/or over crowding of the prison.   In that aspect,   it matters little if they are a celebrity or not.   When it does matter is when they are having a trial.   Celebrities can afford to hire the best lawyer available (or numerous lawyers) while "Joe Blow Citizen" often can not afford an attorney at all and must take an assigned attorney,   who is generally over-worked and   under-paid.   The time available per client,   per case,   may be less than optimum,   making their defense less than what a celebrity might expect from their attorney/attorneys .   The court system makes sure that everyone on trial does have an attorney to represent them at no charge, if necessary.   That attorney may not have the staff to back him up or the time to devote to the case as does the high priced attorney who can devote himself entirely to the one case of the celebrity.   But...on the other hand, do we penalize a person because they have managed to work and have a savings that will allow them to have the best defense possible?   Everyone deserves the best defense possible for their own circumstances.   We are not all the same, we do not earn the same salary,   and some of our society does not work at all or makes their money by stealing or some other criminal activity.   So....what is fair?   If I have the money for a good attorney should someone look down on me because I do have a high paying job which allows me to have a top-notch defense?   The law will eventually catch up with the wrong doer,   as it has in the Lohan case.   Is justice always carried out equally -   no.   But, once the long arm of the law grabs you and puts you behind bars, you will stay there until such time that you have either served your sentence or you are granted early release (which, unfortunately, most are).   You can't buy your way out of prison.   Personally, I am a firm believer that when you are assessed a certain amount to time in jail...that is where you should be until that time is served.

Fair. Believe it or not, there are many, many non-celebrities who don't serve their full sentence as well. In fact, I always read horror stories of killers, kidnappers, and rapists who get off for 'good behavior' and go out and commit the same crime again

But is it "fair"? Is anything "fair" in terms of anything?

IIina, Fair is a word that is made up by people to describe a series of actions, nothing more, just like love, hate, honest, crime, and all the others.

The problem with this question is celebrities are more likely to get off by doing community service announcements or doing speaking appearances to help others supposedly avoid repeating what they have done.the fairness part is up to the judge trying the case.so if we want to blame anyone for the fairness or unfairness of a celebs prison term we need to be looking towards the courts for a explanation.up til recently even criminals who commited murder or worse crimes were able to make millions by selling their life story.now the courts have at least wised up to that as a crime victimizing their victims again by putting a book out.so fair or unfair would depend on what a jury of their peers let them get away with.shame on those judges/jury's who let celebs off with a slap on the wrist.now the judge should also take into consideration if these people actually need real help counseling to stop the actions that they took to end up in front of them in the first place.if they really want to get a celebrity's attention they should garnish all future wages to be earned then they would think twice about acting out in public.

We all despite our talents or money are supposed to follow the laws if anyone breaks them they should not be treated special in any way. Murder is murder, robbery is robbery & so on. Some famous people get away with domestic violence with a slap on the wrist. What is this telling our younger generation? If you have money its okay to do whatever you want & not be responsible? They should be made to do the time if they do the crime. PERIOD!!

Prison time is prison time.   There is NO such thing as fairness when it comes to prison.   You do the crime, you do the time.   End of story. The judge will not budge. One cannot bribe the law. It will only make it worse.
