As I see it flat roof can be of little use and more problematic because its only useful for utilizing space of roof other wise it has lots of problems attached to it.I will discuss some disadvantages below.
Waterproofing must and complex in flat roofs. It is must because water does not slide from flat roofs and it stays on the roof which weakens the material of the roof and most probably result in leakage of roof in rainy season.
Drainage is not automatic in flat roof cause if the sides are totally closed of the roof and water will stay on top of the roof which can damage the roof and even the walls if the walls are nearly built.
Support of snow load must be ensured on flat roofs heaps of snow is formed where snow falls. Removing such snow makes take some time meanwhile it can damage the roof a lot.
Rooms are very hot in summers and colder in winters because in summers flat roofs absorbs heat and it directly taking the heat with no barrier what so ever which normally compels one to make another layer of some membrane to avoid direct heat which is just helpful up to some limit. Same is the case with winters there is no blockage for the frost to effect the rooms through roof.
Flat roof maintenance is more demanding than sliding roof because every now and then rain and sun directly affecting the roof cause its life to reduce and to maintain the roof extra costs are to be beard.Overall opting for flat roof is not feasible.
