It is best to break down this question in order to answer it given the different concepts one is asking about.

  • Reward

A reward is something one is given or receives by way of compensation for good or worthy behavior. It can be money, a promotion, or another form of reward. In psychology a reward is often words of praise for a good job. A reward situation is one in which a reward is offered given a certain situation.

  • Unilateral Contract
Unilateral Contract is a legal term wherein a contract is formed where one party makes a promise or will be part of a certain performance without reciprocal agreement.

  • The difference
Now that the definitions of each have been given, the difference can be determined. As both are legal terms it means the "case" is defined as a legal case in which a reward situation or unilateral contract is being used regarding a requested act. In a reward situation the person is given something for completing the requested act. It is a beneficial agreement because something is given to the party that made the agreement to fulfill the requested act. In the second situation the person is not being given anything in return for completing the task. They have made the contract without any reward or agreement from the other party.

A good example of this is when one testifies against another. Say a criminal is testifying against another and they are rewarded for this testifying by entering the witness protection program; it is a reward situation. In the other contract there is no benefit for testifying and therefore the person just did it because of the request. Most of the time in a court case a unilateral case is welcomed more by those deciding the case.
