As I see it there is no negative side to divorce,as long as no children are in the mix. Two consenting adults who for what ever reason no longer wish to be married should I think be able to simply void the contract, and move on. Where property is in question, and no pre-nup exists 50/50. It seems wasteful to pay lawyers and judges , simply get it over with as friendly as it started, you gain nothing in a prolonged pissing contest except lining the pockets of lawyer's and judge's with cash you could spend on yourself. Honestly, most marriages begin because to people believe they are in love, when in-fact they are in LUST mauling each other in a big sweaty ball is the foremost reason for marriage, not love. In most cases the shine wares off real fast, you know been there done that. Now of course the lust begins to wander around looking for new greener grass ,bag divorce time, what a waste. Finally men will say yes to my opinion and women will call me a liar,we all know marriage is just a mans reason to have free access, and a women's security blanket.

Depends if you have children there are a lot more negative effects, for example, your children will only get to see there parents separate and this will influence the way that they develop mentally. Also your children feel that they can only invite one parent to school productions or birthday dinners or parties.
The positives are not that strong, two birthdays and christmas' ummmm parents can see other people and move on with there lives.

It is a very big decision and I personally think that there is way way way to many people that use it as an escape and don't think about what they are doing or talk about it. People really need to try to make peace with there partners because at the moment too many people are getting divorced just because they can.
